SOS
- Kinderdorf International
This
worldwide organization began with the construction
of the world's first SOS-Children's Village in
Austria in 1949. SOS-Children's Villages is
dedicated to providing a permanent home and a stable
environment to children who have lost or are no
longer able to live with their parents. Currently
there are approximately 450 villages and an
additional 1300 facilities, such as kindergartens,
youth centers, schools and clinics, in over 130
countries. They serve approximately 60,000
children of all ages with the goal of providing the
children with a thorough preparation for life on
their own, so that they can be integrated into their
local communities and obtain job opportunities. The
youth facilities, vocational training centers and
schools in this group of secondary facilities
provide continuity in the SOS-Children's Village
chain of care and support.
The
Consular Corps of Arizona, in selecting
SOS-Children's Villages International as a
beneficiary of the year's Ambassadors' Ball,
recognizes the need to improve the lives of children
worldwide, to give them a home, an education, and a
new beginning.
